Car Crazy My introduction by: Donna Goeringer 03/20/10
Hello, my name is Donna Goeringer and I’m what you could call “Car Crazy”. We enjoy going to Car & Bike Shows as much as possible. We have a 48 Chevy and a 96 Heritage Classic Harley Davidson and have so much fun with both. We have entered our truck in several Car Shows and have a pretty good collection of plaques and trophies. Now that we have a Bike we have a small collection started on plaques and trophies on it.
I’ve been helping with the Pumpkin Festival for the past few years and now I am the Chair Person for the Car Show here in Cordell, Oklahoma. I Love it! I have some special ladies (Becky, Carrie Tina and Royilia) that have helped me make the Car Show a real successful Show. I couldn’t do it without their wonderful help.
We had We had 88 entries last year. It was cold and about 20 cars couldn’t make it, so praying this year will be over 100 entries. We will have “goody bags” for all the entries, but the first 100 pre-entries will get a real nice Dash Plaque.
So, come and join us in a full day of fun with $ and prizes. |

05/14/10 Car Crazy by Donna Goeringer
Hello Everyone, I have been getting ready to attend another Car Show. It will be in Hinton, Oklahoma at the new Sugar Creek Casino. Hope the weather will be good so everyone will have good day of fun, prizes and visiting with each other. Also, there is some Drag Racing coming up. We always look forward to going to the races.
Ok, we went to the Car Show April 24th. The hard word of getting our truck ready to go on the Friday night before the Show paid off. The weather got bad after we got over the Hinton, 152 HWY is always a nice ride. Well, we got there ok and back ok, but the in between was something… Windy as all get out. It rained the band out early. All in all we competed with seventeen trucks in our class and still pulled third place with a trophy and $25 in cash. There was 148 entries there. It wash a great turn out. Everyone hung in there and visited and had a good day.. Now we will see if the weather will be good to make it to Tulsa raceway.
Have a great day.. ’til the next time. |

Car Crazy 07/10/10
Hello Everyone, Well I hope all have been enjoying the sunshine. We had planned for two weeks in advance to all get on our bikes and ride June 19, 2010. Yes it was hot. But we all got down the road about 10:00 am heading up 183 to Clinton. First stop a wrecked van was coming close to us on our bikes I waved to them to back off a little. Well guess they decided to pass us, that’s all ok. Except this van had been wrecked all down the passenger side. The whole side of it had pieces and parts rattling and flapping in the wind. I told my husband that parts could fly off it at any time. Well of course that’s just what happened. The van got about two miles past us they had a blow out and it sent all them wrecked parts and pieces flying right back a us. Scary feeling. We are ok, but I just really don’t understand why someone would drive a wrecked car or truck or anything down the road. It could of hurt them and us. Be careful out there. After this little scare we went on with our ride.
It was getting hotter by the minute. We headed to Weatherford to have some lunch. We decided to try Lucille’s Road House, it was real good. We enjoyed eating and visiting there and we will be going back there again sometime. After lunch we went over to the park where they were having a really big car show. They had about 150 or more entries and had a cruise night Friday night. With both days they have out $10,000 in cash and prizes… really good show! We saw a lot of our car show friends and met new friends, it was nice. We ended up coming back on HYW 152. We had a great day and looking forward to the next ride and car show. Everyone be safe out there. Watch out for yourselves as well as others.
When the rain stops, we will be back out there on the road..
Have a great day, Donna G. |

VOLUNTEER’S YOU ARE THE SPARK PLUG By Claudia Arlene Gray
“No matter how good an engine is, it takes good spark plugs to make it run.” Quote from Royce Lowber
Think of yourself as a “spark plug” with volunteering some of your valuable time to organizations such as the Cordell Chamber of Commerce, Cordell Public Library, Cordell Public Schools, Cordell Memorial Hospital, Cordell Christian Home, Cordell Round-Up Club, and our local Washita County Museum. Volunteers are needed more now than any year, due to the economic down turn in our country. Volunteers will make the difference of keeping alive the values and events in our communities. If you love Cordell become a volunteer until things pick up. Retired persons make great “spark plugs,” because they have the experience and the knowledge to know how to save money and time. They have gone through tough times in the past. Retired persons, have the freedom of time. They know how great it is to volunteer and have that warm feeling when they go home, knowing that they were needed and they gave their time and made a difference. The youth should feel compelled to be a “spark plug” because this is their community too. They should offer their talents, and their energy resources to make their town better. The Pumpkin Festival is just weeks away. This is the largest event of the year. It brings folks into town for the one day event from Texas, Kansas, Missouri, and all over Oklahoma. It takes dependable and reliable volunteers to assist leading up and during the event. Maybe, you love to type, fold papers, post flyers, hang ribbons, answer phones, making signs, making posters, make up a group and direct other volunteers. Just call, Mira Burrows at 832-3831 and tell her you want to roll up your sleeves and help her get the Pumpkin Festival done in style this year. You can do something small or extra-large for the community. It only takes some of your personal time to make a difference. You choose when you can be available. Another project is the Christmas Downtown Lighting. This maybe what are you interested in. If you dream of the square being gorgeous again during the holidays, be a “spark plug” and make it happen. You make the difference. The Cordell Chamber and other organizations need “spark plug” volunteers to better our town and show extra pride and beautify and make a better community. It is very rewarding to stand back and see your work accomplished…to your satisfaction, knowing YOU DID IT. Volunteers work without pay, but the rewards last a lifetime. Become a “spark plug” for your community, today.
