Do You Know of A New Resident That Just Moved To Cordell? Let Us Know.

The Chamber now has a service of welcoming new people to Cordell. We want to make them feel right at home with a welcome basket of goodies from Chamber Member Businesses and provide them with helpful information about the community. Our Administrator  or a member of the Board of Directors will meet with the new residents to answer any questions they may have and invite them to shop in our stores. Members can help by providing gifts for the basket. If you know of a new resident, please call the Chamber office and let us know.

We are now offering the all new “Chamber Bucks”. This is not the old Chamber Bucks. We have revamped the program and now all Merchants that are Chamber Members can accept Chamber Bucks with no monthly charge.

Chamber Bucks are similar to gift certificates except the Chamber Bucks are actually checks. The Merchants that accept these checks will simply deposit them just as they would any other check. The checks are attached to a sheet of paper and on the sheet will be a list of all the merchants that accept Chamber Bucks. You can also identify which merchants accept them by the green sign in their window or in their store that says: “Chamber Bucks Accepted Here”. You can buy Chamber Bucks at the Cordell Chamber of Commerce office located at 114 N. Market.

We are signing up the Merchants now. So, if you’re a Chamber merchant, then let us know if you want to participate in the program so we can put you on the list. You will also be given the green sign identifying you, the merchant, as accepting Chamber Bucks.

As an incentive to use Chamber Bucks, some of the Merchants will be giving special deals or discounts if you pay by Chamber Bucks. This option is up to the individual Merchants. Just ask the store for details.

You could use Chamber Bucks for Birthdays, Special Occasions, Bonuses or just because you don’t know what to get them. In that case, give them Chamber Bucks and let them buy what they want. This program is a great way to keep money and business in Cordell and you just might save some money in the process.

And by-the-way, this is another example of the benefits to Chamber Membership. Thinking about becoming a Chamber Member? Call or email us (office@cordellchamber,org) and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Just a reminder about upcoming meetings: Wednesday Sept 8th Chamber Breakfast 7:15am @ Cordell High School Cafeteria. (Be there early, as they serve the students earlier this year.) And, Monday Sept 13th Chamber Merchants Luncheon 11:30am @ Sunshine Cafe'.

Happy Shopping!

Been shopping in Cordell lately? Well I have. And let me tell you what I found. In one store they had the classic vintage candies and gum from when I was a kid. They even had breath savers that I remember my grandparents using when I was just 5 years old.

Then I went to another store and found a bowl that matched my set. They quit making them years ago. This particular cookware was very expensive, but the store here in town had a price that was a fraction of what I paid years ago and the bowl in the local store was in perfect condition. It’s amazing what you can find in the local stores that you just can not find anywhere else.

Go check them out for yourself. But, just remember to spend lots of time in the stores because they have so many items that it may take you a while before you find that valued treasure.

We’re offering a new advertising option on the Chamber’s website. Now, when you pay for one ad you can have a second ad placed on a different page for half price. So, you can have twice the exposure at a fraction of the cost. Email us for more information at office@cordellchamber.org. We will usually reply the next day. And don't forget to ask about our new Video ads. It doesn't cost anything to ask.

The Pumpkin Festival on Oct. 9th will be here before we know it. So, I would like to remind everyone early about the need to remove their vehicle from the square, and one block in each direction, Friday Oct 8th by 6:00 pm and absolutely no later than 10:00 pm. We need that time to allow the vendors to setup for all the festivities on Saturday. Help make this a great event by doing your part.

Have a prosperous week!

Last week I went to the local hardware store to get a replacement toilet. After paying for it, the store discovered that it was not in stock as they thought. The store manager immediately drove to Clinton, picked up the item then delivered it to my house. Now that’s what I call service.

This in only one example of how much the Cordell merchants care about their customers. Of course, you shouldn’t expect them to take similar action whenever you buy something. However, the store manager knew that I needed the item and he also knew that it was in stock at their other store. So, he was kind enough to go out of his way for me and of course I really appreciated it. This is another reason why I shop locally whenever I can. Do you?

We are no longer taking applications for Chamber Office Administrator. We currently have a person part time to answer the phone and take messages. There is also a Board member filling in occasionally. However, if you need to talk to a Board Member or need for someone to get back to you right away, please use email instead of calling the Chamber office. The email address is: office@cordellchamber.org.

Our Pumpkin Festival T-shirts are here! Hooray! This year the design is better than ever and really looks great.  You have a choice of white or dark gray t-shirts. Drop by the Chamber office and get yours today for only $12 each. And, we also have last years t-shirts on sale for half price. Now that’s a great deal.

The Board of Directors would like to welcome our new Board member Linda Dennis owner of Sugar Plum Gift Shop. She is a wonderful person with lots of energy, original ideas and will be a great asset to the Chamber and the community.

Don’t forget to listen to our radio show @ 1420-AM on your dial every Thursday morning from 8:30am to 8:55am. There are new guests each week, announcements, news, reminders and a little humor thrown in. Would you like to be a guest? Email us for details.
