That Mayberry Feeling

The Cordell Chamber has been serving Cordell since 1902.  In that time we have seen many ups and downs in the economy.  Cordell has suffered through oil booms, weather related disasters such as the tornado that ripped through Cordell in October 2001. Cordell has seen some good days and bad days, but Cordell is a "strong" community with the town always pulling together.  Cordell has been referred to the "Mayberry" town.  Some say "time stands still here".  Cordell is the "perfect place to shop and live with great, warm, friendly people. Cordell's educators are superb and presently building new expansions to our schools.  Cordell is thrilled that we have great coaches and great sportsmanship.  Ask our retired persons how they feel in Cordell.  Low crime, a "safe place" to live.  Our Police officers assist our older residents.  Neighbors take care of neighbors.  It is and has the "Mayberry" town feel. Cordell has great "leadership" and concerned Mayor and councilmen and woman who work to make Cordell better, and better.  Just make a trip to Cordell, visit,  and see if you would like to call this "home."   If you want a slower-pace, away from a large city traffic, Cordell is your place!

A New Business

Have you ever given any thought to running your own business? What are your hobbies? What do you enjoy doing most? What are you really good at doing?  I’ll bet you can come up with a great idea for a business. Why not open your own store on the Courthouse Square and share your expertise with others? It’s not as difficult as you might think.

Housing

Tired of the frantic pace of the big city? With it’s friendly people, laid-back attitude  and relatively low cost of living, Cordell offers a healthier life style. There is anything from a Retirement Village to single family homes to choose from. You will be amazed how much house you can buy compared to other parts of the country.

Education

Along with an excellent Cordell Public School system, there  are other  choices for extended learning within a short drive of Cordell.

Western Technology Center  (Vo-Tech) in Burns Flat offers a variety  of subjects to learn skills that can always come in handy. For higher learning  there is Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford .

Cost of Living

Expenses in Cordell are generally lower than most other parts of the country and even lower than larger cities in the state of Oklahoma.  For example housing was 71% lower in Cordell than the average for the state in 2000. Most of time gasoline is cheaper in this part of the country. Property tax is also lower. Many people don’t realize that you can even get a better deal on a new car in small towns.

Quality of Life

Many small communities are know for their slower pace and friendly people. Cordell is just that, and much more. You can feel safe taking an evening walk. You feel comfortable talking to a stranger knowing that person just might become a good friend. Locked out of your car? Instead of paying for a locksmith just call the local Police and they are more than happy to help. Come and see for yourself the community with a difference.

Recreation

Lead an active life? Why not go fishing at the nearby lake. Or, try your hand at tennis on the courts by the City Park. Maybe you would prefer golf at the course down the street from the bowling alley. There is also hunting in the area. How about a casual walk on the trails in the park. A refreshing swim in the pool next to the park would be a nice way to stay cool in the summer heat. These activities are within walking distance of each other or just a few minutes drive from the city square.
