The 41 Motel was established several years ago, but we haven’t been able to determine the date. Over the years we have continually updated and improved the Motel to provide our guests with a clean and comfortable place to stay. We must be doing something right because nearly 60% of our guests are repeats. Of course, part of our success comes from the support of the community and we thank them for that.

I moved here with my family from California in 1978. We found the town to be much different than the big cities of California. The slow pace and lower cost of living made Cordell very appealing.  Over time the residents welcomed us and made us feel right at home with their friendly ways.  After living in this community for so many years, it would be hard to live in a big city again. I sure am glad I found this wonderful little town. It took me a while, but now I am getting more involved in the community. With a little help from the new friends I’ve met, I hope to make a difference by helping to promote Cordell, the friendly people and the businesses. Maybe others will get involved too.

This morning I was invited to Aleta Jorgensen’s beautiful home which is also her Redbud Realty Center LLC business. During my interview I discovered a thoughtful and gracious lady that was both interesting and entertaining. When I asked about her business she said “I got the name from the Redbud trees in my yard which also happens to be the State tree”. Then she went on to tell me how she got into real estate. “I sold my own home years ago and found it to be an interesting experience. That’s when I decided to quit teaching and get into real estate. I am also a member of the National Association of Realtors and a member of Western Oklahoma Board of Realtors.” As if that wasn’t enough, Aleta is also on the Cordell Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Whether it’s gardening or showing homes, Aleta goes the extra mile for her clients and in her everyday life. This is a conscientious person and it shows.

Aleta was born in southern California, but has lived in Cordell 35 years. She has 5 kids; Alayna, Christina, Kyla, Mike and Dave. I was unable to meet her husband Gene because he was at work, but I heard good things about him. Along with her gardening Aleta keeps busy with her other interests and is involved with ALPHA NU and teaches AWANA at Bible MB Church.

This is a wonderful lady with much to give to the community by way of herself, her time and her passions for the well being of Cordell and it’s people. During my interview I was stuck how she put others first and foremost. Her concerns and thoughts of good will and prosperity for the town and it’s people were important and it showed during the conversation. In this interviewer’s opinion Aleta Jorgensen is more of an asset to the community than many people may realize. Thank you Aleta for your interview. Interviewed by: Webmaster

I was going to interview Terry Patton, the owner of Cordell TV and Appliance, but he was unavailable. So, instead I sat down with the manager Sarah Foust (pictured) to gather some information.

Even though I have done business with their store for years, I discovered things about them that I was unaware of until now. Sarah told me that the store has been in business for 22 years. They carry top named products in appliances, beds, air conditioners, TV’s and much more. Their service is unmatched and I know this from personal experience.

Terry was born and raised in Burns Flat. He is on the city council and belongs to the Lion’s club. He’s married to a wonderful lady Debbie and they have a daughter Jenna. Terry is a great guy and always willing to help whenever he can.

Sarah was raised in Gotebo. She has been happily married to Venoy for 28 years. Sarah loves to tend her garden that’s filled with flowers and vegetables. She is involved in the Salem Baptist Church and plays piano there. Among her other hobbies are dogs and horses.

Sarah has been with the store from day-one. She then told me how she really looks forward to coming to work because of Terry and the other employees. Actually, they are more of a family than co-workers and it shows. When you enter the store you can feel the warmth and friendless from every person you encounter in the store. Their “Family” includes Mike Haas, Michael Wiest, Buddy Holman and Karri Burch.

I can assure my readers that, from personal experience, I know these people to be honest, hard working, friendly and helpful. They can lift your sprits just being around them. So, drop in and say hello. You will come away feeling better than when you walked in.

Connie Slaughterback, the owner of Alluring Lures, is one of those ladies that makes you feel right at home from the first time you meet her.  That’s why I really enjoyed interviewing her for this article. I knew very little about her business, so she proceeded to explain.

Ms Connie has had her business for 4 years. She told me about such things as Lead Baby Slabs, Eagle Claw Hooks,  Big Moe, Ghost Minnow, and Swimmer Babies. I’m not much of a fisherman so most of this was over my head. However, I found it very interesting nonetheless. To those fishing enthusiasts out there, Connie is certainly the person to call on for all your fishing supplies. Whether you’re a casual or serious fisherperson, her knowledge and expertise is a must.

Her business is unique in that the store carries more than tackle. When browsing her shop you may come across RADA brand cutlery, Frankoma Pottery, plus pottery from local artists and gifts you may not find in any other store in this part of the State.

Being a born and raised local she has been in various organizations over the years and is still an active member of the Chamber. When time permits she still helps out when she can. And did I mention that she is also the secretary for Slaughterback Heating and Air. This is one busy lady, yet she always has time for her customers and friends.

When ask about her goals for the future she replied: “My goal in life is leave the world a little bit better than it was when I came”. Now that is one special person.

So, stop by and say “Hello” to Ms Connie. She would be more than happy to help you find that perfect and unusual gift, or just sit with you for a long visit. Either way, you will enjoy the experience and come away with the memory of a fine lady that you will want to see again soon.

Amy Riggs, the manager of Communication Solutions (AT&T), is one of the most energetic and enthusiastic young ladies I have ever met. She is always ready to meet your needs and answer your questions about the products and services her store offers. The store is a one-stop-shop for all your entertainment needs including Direct TV, home internet and more. They will even help you with your cell phone needs even though you are with a different carrier.  Not every store will go the extra mile, but this one really cares about their customers.

Amy is from Dallas, but has lived in Cordell for nearly four years with her husband and daughter. She has worked with testing fiber optics and other related technology to keep up with the latest trends. Her main hobby is photography and shoots pictures for engagements, graduations, weddings and more. Amy supports the American Legion and is heavily involved with the Chamber of Commerce. With her outgoing personality, she is a valued asset to the Chamber and helps out whenever she can.

When asked about her goals in life she responded by saying: “I just want to watch my daughter grow up, be happy and succeed. It’s all about her, not me.”

Amy’s desire to unselfishly think of others and assist in any way she can doesn’t go unnoticed by those around her. We appreciate this fine young lady more than she may know.

New profile on a special person coming here soon.
